I recently purchased the potting shed from Recreation Unlimited. My experience with them was great. From the moment I walked through the door to the shed being placed in my yard, the team at Recreation Unlimited answered questions and provided information I needed. The shed itself is very well built and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I highly recommend!
On average, the labor costs of building a shed average around $70 an hour, or around half the total cost to build a custom shed - $3,000 for a 10’ x 12’ wooden shed. For a kit, expect to pay a fee of $100 to $500, depending on how complex it is to assemble. When contracting with a shed building company, they supply all the materials and labor and, in many instances, build all or most of the shed off-site, then deliver it to your property for finishing.
If you hire a professional shed builder, labor costs will also rise with shed size. Large sheds take longer to install, and most pros typically charge by the hour. Use - What you are going to use your new shed for is another factor that you need to consider. If your new shed is just for storing a few tools and say a bicycle, you really could get away with one of the many smaller semi-portable resin models available that are really easy to set up and require minimal ground space. Whereas if you plan to have shelves full of gardening supplies, lots of long handle tools and some power tools, a larger walk in shed would probably be a better option, as you will have enough room to get in amongst your things. Also if you plan on a bench and vice for a working set-up, you will need a shed that offers plenty of headroom – and some good reinforced flooring would also certainly not go amiss.
You can put shelves in it, but they aren’t included (can order direct from Rubbermaid). The shelves sit back so you can still fit your rake and shovel in there along with other smaller equipment.
The material type and whether the floor is concrete or wood also impact the labor cost. Most sheds do not have electricity or plumbing run to them, but if you intend to have a workshop or office inside your shed, you need to have at least electricity run to the area, which further increases labor costs.
If you’ve got a backyard pool (lucky you!) it’s likely that you also need somewhere to store pool equipment and toys. Rather than have these items cluttering up the garage, keep them organized and conveniently on-hand in a poolside shed. Whether you’re an amateur creating in your spare time or a professional in need of additional work space, a private artist’s studio may be just what you need to get those creative juices flowing.
NOTE: Footprint of 12', 14', and 16' wide buildings are approximately 7 inches less than stated width.
